Share Your Love of Santa Barbara Food & Drink in Poetry
Edible Santa Barbara’s longest running columnist, George Yatchisin, is Santa Barbara’s newest poet laureate. Congratulations, George!
Considering our Winter 2025 issue had the theme of Love Letters, with a supporting article on typewriter poets, we would like to spread the word: Gunpowder Press is accepting poems from residents from Santa Barbara, Ventura and San Luis Obispo counties of any age for a forthcoming Shoreline Voices anthology celebrating Santa Barbara’s local food, drinks, restaurants and agriculture, edited by George.
Santa Barbara glories in bounteous and beautiful products and produce from land to sea. Our farmers and fisherpeople provide us with a great start to create culinary delights. This anthology will attest to all that food and drink means to Santa Barbarans, and the ways that food shapes our culture and relationships.
The following topics can all play a role in your poems, but are not the limited to:
Farms, agriculture, or fishing
Local farmers markets
Native edible plants or vegetable gardens
Ranching and vineyards
Wineries/distilleries in Santa Barbara County
Working with food: farmers, chefs, bartenders, dishwashers
Cafes/bars/restaurants
Local specialty dishes and family dinners
The deadline for submissions: August 31, 2025
There is no fee to submit; please submit only one time, up to 3 poems.
Send your poems via Submittable: gunpowderpress.submittable.com
Upon the book’s publication in Spring 2026, there will be a range of readings and events.
Let your pens and imagination flow!
